A compact power station isn’t only for blackouts. While you aren’t in a storm, you can enjoy pure sound from battery power — charge the unit, disconnect the wall feed so you’re not stuck in passthrough, and run the stereo off the inverter. When the power does go out, the same box still has plenty of capacity for the fridge, lights, and portable electronics.
Whole-home battery systems are a bigger project. Within Anker’s own line, higher-output siblings in the same ~2 kWh band (F2000-class, ~2,400 W) can run toward ~$2k and weigh on the order of ~67 lb vs the S2000’s ~36 lb and 1,500 W — more jobsite headroom you rarely need next to a rack. The S2000’s value is ~2,000 Wh of capacity in a living-room package: hours of real stereo use and fridge/lights without the bulk.
How we think about it
- Everyday: clean listening — unplug AC input; run the chain off battery (Kevin’s room: Rega Planar 3 50th Anniversary, McIntosh C2700 + MA1502, Eversolo T8/Z10, McIntosh XR50s — 4+ hours at normal levels)
- Outage: house essentials — fridge, lights, phones/laptops, modem/router so the home stays usable
- Balance loads — stereo + fridge + lights share capacity; more parallel loads means less runtime
